I really didnt want to start out like this, I too wanted to ask silly questions like what is gmc like, what is ryobi like, where do i buy best priced wood from etc etc etc, and thats what i am going to do in the next few weeks.I have a huge thirst for knowledge on all things woodworking so I will be looking even more in depth in these forums for solutions to my problems. I will be looking forward to telling you my high and low points, the tools I finally buy and if they where "crap" or not.I am sure many people in here will point me in the right direction. There is a wealth of knowledge in here, just wish some people get off their high horses and spread it around otherwise I really don’t know what they are doing in here. Well sorry if I offended some people in here, just pointing out some of my feelings in reading these groups the past few weeks.I just "feel" that a lot of people talk down to others in here.I am generalizing I know, but I am trying to sort out what I need to do to become I good woodworker without mine is bigger and better than yours attitude. So GMC and Ryobi have and will get my money for now, untill I reach some level where i need to have a "name" brand. Once apon a time we all though Jap car where, look at them now, we compare our cars to theirs if our quality is as good as theirs. I refuse to pay the big boys top dollar for something made in a 3rd world country. If it is made in japan, usa or europe then i can understand I have to pay top dollar as their standard of living is close or better than ours.If our asian friend is getting paid 2 dollars an hour I aint going to help the multinational get right on his labour.Īlso asked my mate who has people bulding his new holiday house and the chippies there use GMC because of the 2 year REPLACEMENT warranty. It dies they get a new one. I am a newbee in here and i cant believe the snobbiness in this forum.GMC might not have the worlds best tools but for value for money you cant beat them.I am looking at ryobi as well, which for value for money looks good.So what if they are made in china, makita stuff is assembled in mexico, peel back the sticker on your cordless drill and you will see that. Some bosch stuff is made in malasia. Will keep you posted if i have any issues with it over the coming months, but i doubt it. Other 'Purists" may point you toward other brands, but when the makita is around 4 times the cost of the GMC, you could replace the GMC 4 times over. I have nothing to do with the company whatsoever, but I now own 4 different powertools from this company. But the 2 year home use warranty is something you can beat. In the recent 6 month they have released some great value for money products. GMC used to be very dodgy a few years back when they first came to the australian market. Mind you, thats pretty much the norm with any mitre saw.

The dust bag is near on useless if you are cutting MDF, so a dedicated dust extraction unit hooked up would be a must if you plan to do lots of work using MDF. dont go to the center of the laser, your cuts will be a millimeter out. The laser is about 1mm wide, so the trick is to set the edge of the laser line to the edge if your cut and work from the left. The cuts a spot on and the laser is on the money. I also bought a 60 tooth, negetive rake TCT blade to replace the one that comes standard with the unit as i wanted to be able to cut aluminium and plastic as well as fine cuts to timber.

Just last night i spent a few hours squaring up the fence and adjusting the laser. They are excellent value for money from what i have seen so far. I have just received one for my birthday the other week.
